  1. I own the "T2 Extreme Edition" DVD which includes a high-definition version of the movie on the 2nd disk.

Is there a way to rip this movie off the disk and then convert it into DivX-HD so that I can play it on my stand-alone Avel HD DVD player? As it is, it is only playable on a very very fast computer, and the fastest computer I have is a P4-2.4GHz which doesn't do a good job. However, once converted, I would expect that it'll play very nicely on the Avel IO HD DVD player.

Anyone have any experience doing this?

As I OWN the original DVD and I am doing this only for my own personal use, there is nothing illegal about it.

Nope, WMV DRM hasn't been "cracked" so you can't copy it similiar as copying dvds.

You can convert free wmv hd clips(from the microsoft site) with virtualdub.

  3. If I remember correctly, an older version of Virtualdub could crack the WMV protection........which was why it was "upgraded"

Word has it that a Chinese group has cracked the WMV protection - but all links to their program lead to dead-ends, and one expects that they're probably in a load of legal hot water.

  5. I see that a number of IMAX DVD's now also include a HDTV version in WMV-HD. Does anyone know if these are playable in a stand-alone HD-DVD player like Avel, or can they only be played on the computer like T2?

  6. There are rumours that DRM10 is cracked (drm is removed in a similar way as with ITunes, etc.)

The files appear not to be available on the internet anymore (assuming they were once), so they are still rumours ...

  7. Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there is much work in this area. I think the main reason being that only now are true HD-DVD players becoming available (ie. Avel IO Dataplayer).

Prior to just 6 months ago, there was really no need to convert such media into a DVD standalone playable format, as no such devices were even available.

I would settle for M$ or another company making standalone playable WMV-HD or DivX-HD DVD's. I would buy them.
