ATI AIW capture driver not supported by Win XP Pro?

I keep getting this message every time I start up the TV capture - DMA not enabled. Yet, when I go into Device manager to look at the IDE devices, it says I have 'ultra DMA 5' enabled, detected by the BIOS.

When I look at the ATI capture device, the O/S sees it as legacy, unsupported.

I've tried updating the drivers from the ATI website, but this symptom persists. Unless I'm installing them wrong.. could be.

I also notice some audio sync issues with my recorded TV capture, but I plan to add a PCI Spounblaster 24 bit card I have around instead of the integrated thingy, not sure if this is related to the driver thing..

Is there anything to be done here?

Don't know if this will help or not, but I had issues with my ATI software (I have an AIW Radeon AGP card). Finally ended up uninstalling latest and reinstalling older version of ATI Catalyst, now it works fine.

Use the updated drivers from ATI.com, not the junk on the CD.

Thanks, should I completely uninstall the CD junk first? The ATI instructions for doing this are a little dated, don't really look like the wizard that gets launched, and are a bit vague (to me) about what should get uninstalled, and what should install before what. Only I've DL's the stuff from the site and ran it, symptoms didn't go away and now my display acts funny at times.

Yes, I would uninstall all the ATI software. Check out this page. It has alot of good info.

There's a uninstall utility on the ATI site, you were able to find it at the bottom of the drivers page.

you could also when uninstalling the ATi software,make sure all the folder pertaining to ati are gone too,and the registry entries as well.
my older cap card was problematic and uninstalling the software helped but the remaining reg entries were a pisser too.

In the link I provided, it touches on all of those issues. It's such a pain sometimes to get the ATI installs to work correctly. But once you get a version that works with your setup. It's rock solid. IMHO.

As a long-time ATI driver remover/installer, I've found using Driver Cleaner 3 - http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3214.html - to be a big help in uninstalling ATI components. Follow the instructions then install the most recent drivers off the ATI website.

Thanks guys. Sadly, my PC now refuses to boot (I was away from home when I was asking these questions) so I never got a chance to uninstall. It's only a week old, so I'm covered under warranty (I hope), but as soon as it gets fixed, I will follow your advice. Hell, I'll do it for the other ATI card I have installed on the other PC.

Well, got that sorted out, much better quality video and capture now, and the progrm repsonds faster. I still get the warning message about DMA access, but the sound-synch issue has gone.

Just curious...what exactly did you end up doing to fix your sync problem? New sound card, or what?
