I just recently got a complete reinstall of Win XP Home done, using a copy slipstreamed with SP2. Everything seems fine until I load up Edonkey. After a little while it seems to slow my web browsing down to near dialup speeds. (I have cable) I thought I recalled hearing something about SP2 limiting connections and there being a patch for it. I didn't get much detail on it at the time as I was still running SP1 and now I have no idea where to look. Could this be causing my problem and anyone tell me how to deal with it? Provided I'm not remembering something that never existed. :P

Okay found a brief reference to what I'm talking about.
If you have experienced any problems with DOS-based games, online games or peer-to-peer software this is because SP2 limits connections per port to 10 (in order to slow the spread of viruses and worms such as Sasser), so programs such as eMule, that open connections to a lot of different destinations will be slowed down too. -
You can try this:

Thanks I'll keep that it mind. From what I've read recently it mainly only slows it down at the begining of the download (capped to 10 connections per second, not 10 total) So I'm gonna try a few tweaks in EDonkey before applying any patching.

you can find the patch your looking for in the Skype Forum
www.skype.com I use this patch and it helps abit. -
www.lvllord.de also has a fix. It will allow you to set the limit to (almost) what ever number you want.
As a note, XP SP2 limits the number of outbound connections to 10/sec. This is to prevent the mass spread of worms and such. For a cable connection (limited upload bandwith) more than 50 would be overkill. 20 would probably work.
Remember, use these "unoffical" modifications/hacks at your own risk! Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think.
