  1. Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Intervideo DVD Copy 2. I have been using it in conjunction with AnyDVD with very good results for the past month or so. Generally, I have been backing up the Movie Only and I have been very happy with the results. However, the other day I tried to backup Alien Vs. Predator (Movie Only) and the result was a number of instances in the movie where compression blocks appeared. I have backed up a number of my movies using this method and have not had this issue before. I know its not the media as I then played the movie in the Intervideo preview window and noticed the blocks in the same place. The strange thing is that I tried to backup the complete dvd to one DVD 5 and did not have any of these compression blocks. By the way, I tried this 3 times on 3 different occassions.

Any help to overcome this issue (and continuing to use Intervideo DVD Copy 2) would be appreciated. Just to clarify I would like to continue to use Intervideo as I have found the results to surpass that of Shrink in terms of video quality.

Hi and welcome to the forums

try ripping it first then putting it through ID2. You thought about getting ID3 as it supposed to givebetter results according to most feedback I have seen

  3. I use AnyDVD to Rip the disc as it is super fast. Then I simply open up Intervideo DVD Copy 2 Platinum and select whether to burn the full disk or the movie only. Really what I find perplexing is that blocks do not show up when I burn the full disk (i.e. apply more compression) but they do show up (at least in the last movie I tried to backup) when burning the movie only. I have considered purchasing Intervideo DVD Copy 3 but as I just recently purchased 2 I'm in no hurry to spend any more money. I'm eager to get this issue sorted out as I have found that using this program in conjunction with AnyDVD (ripper) can produce very clear and detailed images.

The only real drawback to this program is it's inability to select which audio tracks to keep. You have the option of keeping them all or selecting just one. In addition, even if you only keep one the program does not take the space savings into consideration when compressing. To remedy this I use Shrink 3.2 to eliminate unwanted audio tracks and then I back up the file to the hard drive with no compression; from there I use Intervideo DVD Copy 2 to compress and burn.

Just in case anyone thinks that Shrink is the culprit, I have tried to do a movie only back of AVP (Alien Vs. Predator) using just IV 2 and IV 2 in conjunction with Shrink. Generally, I only use Shrink where eliminating audio tracks can yield no compression; otherwise I just compress and burn directly with IV2 after ripping with AnyDVD.
