  1. Im new to writing to DVD and have recently tried converting DivX to DVD (VOB). I have successfully converted the file and wrote it to DVD however the picture is slightly too big for the screen, it cuts the subtitles off almost completely and the sides are also cut, Its also the same when i put it as 4:3.

This all happens with the file converted as NTSC, so i figured it may need to be PAL as i live in the UK. I went out and bought some more DVD's (Re-Writable Memorex ones) and wrote it as PAL but when my player tried to load it, it said there was no disc in the drive.

Anyone got any idea whats going on?

Standard TV's don't display the entire video, about 5% is off the screen. It's called overscan. You can add borders to the video when encoding help fix it.

If the file was formatted as NTSC and plays fine on your DVD player it's best just to leave it alone. There's a lot involved with converting NTSC>PAL or vice versa. Apparently most PAL DVD players play NTSC.

  4. I just tried it again but did it as NTSC instead of PAL and got the same results, after searching for "memorex" on the forums it seems that alot of people have problems where it wont recognise there being a disc in the drive.

Well I wasn't really commenting on why it wouldn't play, guess I should have specified that. See #2 for that issue https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=253102

  6. Thanks alot for the reply =]

My player has played DVD+R before, is this different to DVD+RW?

If so ill try it with a different disc, either way it looks like i will have to add a border to the video, do you know of any programs where i can easily do this?

Sorry to be a pain in the arse, and thanks again for your help.

  7. Ive tried using TMPGEnc Plus to get rid of the overlay but it wont support my avi files for some reason. cant beleive how difficult it is to get video from your PC onto DVD to play onto your telly. maybe should give it a break for a couple of days.

In TMPGEnc--filter setting, CK Clip Frame, arrange setting, then select
    Center (keep aspect ratio)

    This has worked for me

    Good luck
