  10. I know Gamecube is coming out with a built-in DVD player, but don't know if its going to play vcd's... its going to be by panasonic or something...next year... Looks like GAMECUBE is the WINNER!!! I don't know what to buy... PS2 was a disappiontment to me. after PS2, I bought a Dreamcast (after I learn that you can play backup games without a mod chip...keke...$$$), but still think DC is a better system...

  11. Panasonic canceled the dvd player on gamecube in the Usa. Why. Cause it costs 335 dollars. Not worth it for a little box. It is still coming out in japan though. Oh xbox reads mini dvd's hahaha. Yes some guy on the forum of http://www.teamxbox.com tested it.

You know Shabubu, this is what i hate. I hate it when you ask how do do one thing and a dude says "Naw, dont use this, use that!". That defeats the purpose. The point is to hack the xbox. Yeh, i can play my vcds on my standalone dvd player, but its a good feeling when all you have to do is burn an mpeg with gyplay files with cdrwin then burn an audio.iso on the second track and now you can watch a movie on your dreamcast. A selfbootable one at that! This is what makes it fun. When big corporate millionare stiffs do everything in their power to make a consumer do one thing and you hack that shit and do what YOU want to do with it. Kinda like a spit in their face. Just like with life. ALWAYS find a way to get "around" something. It makes you a more succesful person. Think about. You feelin me fellas?

  17. Here's my buck and a quarter.

Take the 430 bucks you'll spend on the Xbox, upgrade you PC to have a DVD-Burner and upgrade your CPU a bit(on will cost more than 430 but still) Then get a PS2 and Xbox emulator on your PC.

  18. Hi all, first post!

I have an Xbox and the DVD remote and I verified it will read cdrw's as far as audio is concerned, but my attempt at getting it to read a vcd burned to the same cdrw was a no-go. Someone suggested burning a cdvd (MPEG2?) but I am not familiar with that format.

As for my opinion of the Xbox, I had the PS2 for 3 monthes and sold it due to sub-par graphics and lame audio. What first attracted me to the Xbox was the hardware's built in HDTV support and real-time DD5.1 surround sound, and built in ethernet support, which should encourage a huge online broadband only gaming community. HALO is absolutely amazing, and it's only running at 480p! I can't wait to try some 1080i titles. As for the Gamecube, it looks great, but none of the titles I've seen peak my interest. Seems to be shooting for the younger crowd.

My pc is very game capable, but I have a pretty sweet home theatre setup and head to head gaming with a friend around a 19" monitor just doesn't compare to two recliners in front of a 56" HDTV

  19. btw, I tried burning a cdvd (?) (MPEG-2 720x480 using Ulead's new software) to a CDRW, which the Xbox will read, and it actually tried to play it. It knew what it was, but I ended up with about 85% of the screen filled with green blocks and the rest were blocks of the proper image, but it was stuck on each frame for several seconds and would only play a split second of the audio.

I tried two different CDRW media, one cheapo 2x and one verbatim 10x (I tried it burned at 1x and at 10x with the same results)

    somewhat encouraging, any ideas?

Damn right. Hell, even the Constitution is hackable!
I would love to hack an xbox... hack it to peices with an axe that is .
Just kidding. Sorry I dont have any help to offer, I just liked your speech about hacking:
"...This is what makes it fun. When big corporate millionare stiffs do everything in their power to make a consumer do one thing and you hack that shit and do what YOU want to do with it. Kinda like a spit in their face..."
    Words of wisdom.

  21. UPDATE! The xbox DOES NOT play vcd's/xvcd's/svcd's/xsvcd's or in other words, anything but DVD's... as well when I pop the game into my dvdrom in my pc.. it pops up saying this is not a movie, please insert game in xbox.. so ripping might be tricky.

I was hoping it would play at least vcd's.. but alas.. nothing..

    There ya go!

  22. OK so no-go for vcd/svcd etc. Has anyone tried playing:

    - mpeg1 or mpeg2 file (vcd/svcd compliant or not) burned onto a regular data cd-r (not vcd/svcd format)?

    - wmv or asf file burned onto a regular data cd-r?

    - minidvd (not 'cdvd') burned onto cd-r?

Sorry, but with the problems involved with consoles and there reliability I really don't think it's worth losing your warranty. It may be fun to hack the xbox, but if you have that kind of money for a whim, then I want your job.

Can you confirm that you can play DVD-RW Video.. ie a movie disc? It's strange, because Although PS2 can read a DVD-RW game, it can not play a DVD-RW Video.. This is important for me, as I ned to be able to play DVD-RW Video and I was thinking of getting an xbox anyways, this would confirm my decision
