  1. i want the best possible mpeg 2 captures for my winfast tv 2000 card.

now i was think i would capture at very high bitrate with the supplied PVR software around 8000 or 9000..

then shrink it down to 4.7 dvd with DVD shrink.

will doing that give me the best results or will it mae it look even worse??

the reason why i ask is because i wont the best possible picture quality that i can get and i know right now i am only able to cap with the pvr software around a quality setting of 400 which looks ok for cartoons but i dont know about movies.

so cap high and encode high and shrink

    or

cap low and encode low quality with no shrinking??

  2. dvdshrink is actually a transcoder, not an encoder. If you want the "BEST" results on one disk (meaning, you have to do compression), is capture at the highest settings that you can and then encode to CVD (352x480/576) with 48mhz audio. That is a trully valid dvd resolution and unless you are on a 50" TV, you wont notice a difference.

if you capture high, then you have the possibility at a later date of using the higher bitrate capture on a DL disc (if you plan to get a DL burner down the road).

    just a thought...
