My HDTV is a 16:9 aspect ratio set. I capture in AVI using Virtual Dub, and convert using TMPGEnc. Can anyone tell me the best settings in each of these two softwares for capturing the original video (say, something coming through my DishNetwork receiver) and converting it in TMPGEnc so it looks the best when played on my 16:9 ratio TV?

Hello,
Just make sure the "source display" is set to "16:9 display" and also use "keep original aspect ratio". Use those two settings and the video SHOULD look just like the original in terms of proportions....
