I using AVStoDVD to take my Canon Camcorder files (AVCHD) and burn them to a playable DVD. The app seems to work fine with the exception that there does not seem to be a way to change the default output setting to ratio 4:3 rather than 16:9. I know how to go in to the application and change the output setting but this has to be done one-by-one which takes too long when you're working with over 50 titles.

    I'm in Windows 7.

  2. AVStoDVD sets the aspect ratio by reading the input title aspect ratio: IF the input DAR is 4:3 THEN output DAR will be 4:3, otherwise it will be 16:9.

How is your input titles aspect ratio? If it is 16:9, why do you want to encode them at 4:3? Could you copy&paste here a MediaInfo report (also AVStoDVD main window with your title loaded is ok)?

    Hey _MrC_
The source files are 16:9, so I guess I'm stuck with that? I would prefer to have it fill the screen on my TV rather than having it "squashed" with that widescreen look...

So do you want it letterbox or with the sides chopped off?

For letterbox, once you have added the 16:9 wide flag to the MPeg2, it should be a DVD player setting (4:3 TV).

Letterbox would be fine as long as it didn't chop any of the footage off.

Thus go with 16:9 DAR and let your DVD Player set the letterbox display

I'll check to see if my TV can do that. It's a Vizio LCD tv.

    Oh a 16:9 TV?

Then flag the DVD MPeg2 16:9 and set the DVD player for a 16:9 TV and set the TV to wide.

Ah, I forgot about the setting on the DVD player. I'll check that one.
