  1. I don't know what is going on. I have had 5 burn failures and no successesful burning ever using DVD Decrypter 3.5.1.0 and DVD Shrink 3.2.0.1.5. Burning with DVD Shrink gets about 80 percent done and then I get
    #28 Phase 38 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 238
    Burn process failed at 8x (11,040 KB/s)

Using Nero 6.0.0.16 independently to burn the DVD Decrypted DVD Shrink encoded movie under the DVD Video format I get
    #32 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1843
    Burn process failed at 8x (11,040 KB/s)

When I use DVD X Copy for the ripper, and then DVD Shrink, I have absolutely no problem whatsoever burning the video and I have done three so far that way. I just thought that maybe I could get a little bit better quality video and sound with DV Shrink. Especially, I don't like the sound quality at all with DVD X Copy.

I don't know what the problem is but I am about ready to completely give up on the Decrypter Shrink system. It's just not working for me.

Does anyone have any idea on what this problem is. Here are some of the log results right before the burn fails.

Neither of those programs compress the audio -- it's the same as the original disc.

  3. DVDShrink doesn't burn; you're still burning with Nero. Update Nero. The early versions of Nero 6 are very buggy.

    00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

    00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
Your burner's firmware has no specific support for the discs you are using. A firmware upgrade may fix this.

Seeing the entire Nero log file would help. (Be sure to remove your serial number before posting.)

  5. There was a firmware upgrade. How could you have known? I never would have even guessed that a DVD drive has a firmware upgrade and a ROM chip to flash. So I did the firmware Flash upgrade from B080 to B180.

I also did a Nero Software upgrade to 6.6.3.0

On top of that, I also ran the Determine Maximum Speed option in Nero.
which then would only allow me to burn the video at 4 speed instead of 8 speed because it said my source was too slow. What? my 5500rpm hard drive is too slow. I don't think so. A 5500 hard drive is still a lot faster than an 8 speed DVD recorder as far as I know.

In any case, one of these things worked because so far it has recorded perfectly the things I couldn't record before. But which one of these changes was the reason for the improvement I'll never know. And so it is with computers. You can't always know the real reason behind something.

Thanks for all the helpful tips.
