I've been attempting to capture some old Hi8 tapes through my Canopus ADVC-100 and they are filled with dropouts. These tape dropouts range from a few pixels to full lines.

High end hardware TBCs have multi-line dropout compensation. Is there a non-realtime software process that does the same thing or better?

I know some Matrox DV cards can do this.

There is some AVISYNTH stuff FulciLives posted in the RESTORATION forum sometime last month.

You've moved beyond just capturing. You're wanting to restore the video. Moved to RESTORATION forum, more help there.

  3. edDV, you did not mention if you are already processing the video signal with a full frame TBC. If you are not, you may want to give that a try. Even a TBC without DOC might stabilize the frames enough to prevent dropouts during capture. My Feral A4:2:2 has DOC, but I have not used that feature on a capture so I can't comment on how well it works.

I don't know if there is an effective way to correct dropouts after capturing... but LS is right, FulciLives would probably know if there is.
