  1. Hello all,

have an avi that i ran through Mainconcept and TMp. Everything works out great after i burn it except for the fact i get jittery playback on motion. Classic pannying shots that do not move swiftly.

This only seems to happen every now and again with avi's. I know this has been talked about but i have not found an answer on it. Anyone please give me insight???

FYI the Fps on the origional is 23.

  2. And you converted it to what fps?
    That's probably why it's jerky.

  3. Thanks for the post, i converted it to standard DVD (29.XX) cannot remember.

The strange thing is that some avi's do it and some dont. I use the same settings in MC across the board.

It's best to keep your fps the same as your source file. If your avi is 23.976 then convert to 23.976 mpeg and apply 2:3 pulldown by using pulldown.exe . Also make sure your field order is correct. Incorrect field order can cause jittery playback.

  5. cool, i will try that out.

On another note, i notice that the avi in question is also a bit jittery when i play it back on my pc. I just use media player to view.

Does that mean a bad avi?

Windows media player is IMO not very good. Try media player classic. Also you might open the file in virtual dub and scan the video stream for errors.

I had a jerky/jittery video problem once. I tried the suspect clip on another system and it played fine. The jerkiness was not in the video but somewhere in my system (video card, I assume.) It didn't happen with every clip. Try yours on another system, if possible, as it could be your system.

  9. Mainconcept has 2:3 pulldown built in. No need for pulldown.exe
Click on the Advanced button, and you'll see it.

  11. Encode the video to 23.976fps in Mainconcept, using 2:3 pulldown.

That's good to know! I mostly encode in cce and tmpgenc but am testing mainconcept. I like it's speed.

To the original poster tmpgenc also has 3:2 pulldown built in so I guess you don't have use pulldown.exe afterall.

  15. Not to blatantly threadjack, but...
freebird73717, I have found Mainconcept's output to be slightly more on the blurry side, compared to tmpgenc, BUT, with a huge difference in lessening macroblocking. Mainconcept seems to smooth it out more, and still gives great results on single pass.
2 pass VBR seems to be a waste of time, in most cases...I suppose it depends on the source material, and who's eyes are going to be watching the finished product

Yeah i've noticed it produces a softer picture. So far all I have done is single pass encodes. I'm pretty pleased with it so far. Frankly i couldn't even figure out how to select 23.976 fps using mpeg2. The only way I could get it to show up was to go mpeg 1.
