  1. As always thanks for the help fellas. My latest problem is trying to take a small portion of a video shot on a DVD Camcorder and edit it. I copied the VOB files and tried to edit them in both Nero Vison Express and Ulead Video Studio 7 and both times they only recognized the files as 3 or 4 second clips when they are blatantly 2:30 minutes and playback is fine . I really need to do this and I have no idea why this is happening.

    Any suggestions.

Try the Pegasys MPEG Editor program or Womble Mpeg2vcr

  4. Have not had a chance to try your suggestion yet but I noticed that for some reason the file properties list the duration of the VOB as 3.4067 seconds yet it continues to play for the remaining 2+ minutes (but cannot edit). The timer on my media player stays at 3 seconds. What the hell is going on?

File corruption, or your Mpeg2 codec or player is wacky...

  6. The files must be corrupted because it does it in every player and/or editor. I've tried everything. VDubMod recognizes the whole file but when I create the avi it skips every 3 seconds, presumably because of the problem we are talking about. The only thing I can think of is to use CamStudio and record the vid image right from my screen. That is a last resort but I have 24 hours to figure out a way or I am in serious doo doo.

    I'm perplexed.

  7. Did I mention this is from a mini-DVD? It should not matter one bit, but I can't think of anything else

Yuck. Copy the VOB files from the DVD to a folder on your hard drive.

    Try this tool https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=252033

You'll need the .NET 1.1 framework (download from Microsoft if you don't have it).

This should leave you with either a good MPG or you can be pretty sure the file is corrupted.

  9. Nifty tool and thanks for the advice, but it didn't work. Same problem. I can only edit the first 3 seconds of any file off this DVD although I can watch the whole thing. All media players timer stops at 3 but it keeps playing. Very annoying! All I want to do is place part of this video in a slideshow. No matter what I use to make the Slideshow the same thing happens. 3 seconds out of 2 minutes are available.

Hmm. It MIGHT be encrypted. You'll have to rip with DVD decrypter, or load up ANYDVD , which will do the decryption on the fly. In other words, you can copy the encrypted files to your hard drive and ANYDVD will automatically decrypt them in the process.

What about demuxing the VOBs (VOBEdit) then remuxing (TMPGEnc > MPEG Tools), then importing the MPEG-2 file into an MPEG-editing application ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Yes, VOBs are not intended for editing, they are parts of a DVD. You can (besides VOBEdit) try ReJig to demux audio and mpeg video.

I think a record for percentage of post in a threads first page that you started has been broken.

Well, I'll do my part to lower that percentage ...
    If in doubt, Google it.

  16. Alright, thanks for your patience with me guys. I demuxed the audio and video, but I cannot load a m2v into TMPGenc (file not supported). I feel like an idiot and I have not slept because of this. I have the separate m2v and ac3 files. Now what?

Thanks for your advice everyone. I will let you know what happens.

Try opening it with vdubmod. You can then edit it and save as avi. You would then need to convert back to mpeg2 with tmpeng or ulead. This is really just to see if the file will open as a complete video.

I agree, try Womble mgpg-vcr before continuing

  23. Thanks for the tips. What I ended up doing was playing the dvd in my set top player and capturing it as an mpeg through the composite input on my capture card. It turned out pretty good. Lost a little quality but it's not bad. Not sure why I didn't think of that before.
