  1. I have 4 questions.

    1. Who currently makes the best DL +R Burner? (Top 3)
    2. Which DL +R burnner will allow me to change BookType Setting to DVD-ROM?
    3. Will the DL +R format run on current players if you can change the BookType Setting to DVD-ROM?
    4. Any ideas when Plextor will release a DL burner?

    Thanks!

    Matt

plextor already has a DUAL LAYER 16x DVD burner out , model 716.

Who currently makes the best DL +R Burner? (Top 3)
    1. BENQ 1620
    2. PIONEER 108
    3. PLEXTOR 716 because they've announced 6x DUAL LAYER firmware upgrade in a few months.

check out the forums at www.cdfreaks.com on those brands i listed.

Which DL +R burnner will allow me to change BookType Setting to DVD-ROM?
BENQ 1620 has BITSETTING automatically for DVD+R for single layer and dual layer media.

Will the DL +R format run on current players if you can change the BookType Setting to DVD-ROM?
according to lordmsmurf some dual layer media is not compatible with some dvd players. dual layer media is still quite expensive in my opinion.

i have 2 BENQ 1620 drives that work great even with DVD-R media. in my opinion it's the best drive out there right now perhaps until PIONEER releases the 109 drive at the end of this month.

Of course, everyone will have their own "best" opinions, usually based on what they own. As another BENQ 1620 owner, I can say it is very good. I haven't burned an DL with it yet, but it's been great with everything else. Is it "the best"? I don't know, I don't really have anything to compare it to. It does, however, work great for me!

    1. Mines a Lite on but Pioneers hava good rep. These are just opinions.
    2. Lite On lets you bitset. Pioneer automatically records +DL as DVD-ROM (I believe)
    3. Not all but a lot more than will without the bitset.

  5. Here are three excellent burners right now:

Best factory firmware support - Benq 1620

Best out of box support - Pioneer DVR-108

Best hacked firmware support - NEC3500

All of them will bitset DVD+R SL and DL to DVD-ROM either with stock or replacement firmware.

Stay away from the Plextor. The write quality isn't there yet and I can't see spending the $$$ premium on something that might write well in the future. When that time comes there may be another king on the block like the Pioneer DVR-109 for half the cost.
