  1. Hi,

I have the above drive in a HTPC, sadly my main desktop pc in another room has completely died so I was going to use my HTPC with the above drive for my new desktop from now on.

I am aware that the above drive cannot do Booktype settings to DVD-ROM. This is absolutely crucial for me. Does anyone know of a workaround or possible upgrade?

I know that it has been mentioned in this forum that certain other sites have hacked firmwares for Pioneer drives. But what about this drive?

    Many thanks,

  2. I'd be surprised to find a bit-setting firmware available for that drive. That's too new and too expensive of a drive to risk voiding your warranty. If you cannot swap to DVD-R, maybe an external enclosure with the drive from your other dead pc would be your cheapest alternative. There are lots of enclosures under $50 USD on the market.

  3. Thanks i feared it was too new. It's my fault really I assumed it would do Booktype. How wrong I was. I wanted +r booktyping because I have found it more compatible with normal DVD machines. Good idea about the enclosure, I'll look into it.

make sure you know what chipset the external drive has because NOT ALL ENCLOSURES will work correctly with dvd burners. some external cases have the prolific or cypress chipset. there's a big enclosure thread at cdfreaks.com that you could start with.
