I have been burning DVDs for some time and changing the booktype to DVD-ROM for DVD+Rs worked fine. At some point this stopped working. I use ImgBurn to check and it definitely is still DVD+R (also verified with Qsuite). Not sure if it was when I started using ImgBurn instead of DVDdecrypter. I have set ImgBurn to change booktype and I also have Qsuite installed and have it set correctly as well. I do have Nero8 installed but I don't use it to burn DVDs. Can someone help please....Steve

    ImgBurn 2.5.0.0
    Qsuite 2.1
    Nero 8.2.8.0

Are you really sure you need this? Unless you or family/friends have ancient DVD players this should be completely unnecessary for any recently made DVD player to successfully play back your discs. I suppose it's possible that your BenQ drive needs a more recent firmware update. If you are using bad quality media (in the USA this means anything other than Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden and some Sony discs) it can cause burners to need firmware updates to be fully compatible with bad discs. If you use good quality media (stick to Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden) then you likely wouldn't have this problem. You might also need an update to QSuite, but again, I strongly suspect that you are using low quality media which is the real issue here.

    Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the welcome....I actually have been following this forum and was a member for years but I hadn't posted in awhile so my ID was deleted. Anyway, I always use Verbatim. As far as I can find the firmware and Qsuite are the latest (old but latest). The DVDs do play in my player but it does bother me that I can't change it. Anyone know if Nero 8 could be causing this?

If you dig around ImgBurn's settings.....BenQ drives throw up an ERROR when trying to change +R media to ROM.
I have LG drives and ImgBurn has them set to booktype to ROM by default.

  6. I'm able to set my BenQ 1640 to DVD-ROM with ImgBurn, try this:
Go to Device Manager->DVD/CD-ROM Drives and right-click on the 1640, uninstall and reboot.

Nero could be the culprit if you have InCD installed.

Again, unless you are absolutely sure that you REALLY need this, and most people do NOT, this may be much ado about nothing. MOVIEGEEK's suggestion appears to be the way to go. And definitely check on InCD, which is a really evil program you would do well to uninstall.

InCD is not installed, I went down that dark path a few years ago. I will try the uninstall of the device. Could Alcohol 52% virtual drive be the problem?

Are you sure booktype to DVD-ROM is set in Q-Suite? Uninstall NERO because it's such crappy software. And use their cleaning tool as well. Use IMGBURN to burn dvd media.

If the firmware that you're using is fine then there would be no need to update it. Unless you're having playback problems with the dvd disc.

BTW for those of you that don't, BENQ's optical drive dept. was sold off to LITEON a few years back.
