I am authoring a xVCD with VideoPAck 5. It consists mainly of one big mpeg file which is 728840 KB. I have created 2 moving menus with each menu having 6 chapter points into different points in the big mpeg file.
Now, in the CD meter, it says : 527 MB, Time: 60:02:60
When I create a disc image it creates an image file which is 858,891 KB. And hence I am not able to fit it in 1 CD.
Am I hitting a bug ?
What is going on here ? Any settings I have to click on ?
Also, the same mpeg file if I split each chapter as a seperate mpeg file, then the CD image created is 745 MB and I am able to fit it in one CD.
Please help

The size meter in VP5 is inaccurate.
Roxio is aware of this.
As far as the moving menus:
Are they moving backgrounds or moving buttons?
Not sure why it totals near 840 megs, but your source clip of 700 megs is already enough to fill an 80 minute CD-R. -
They are moving buttons.
If I cut the source clip up so that each chapter becomes a new mpeg file, then it creates a CD image which is 750 MB.
Which I am able to fit in one CD.

To create moving buttons, VP5 must encode a new clip using the background and small previews from the chapters. The size of this new clip depends on how long you have set the default duration of the menu.
So you have:
Your source clip (728840 KB)
The menu clip (?KB)
Xtra stuff the burning program must add for compatablity reasons (? KB).
Which you are trying to burn to a CD-R that holds only 716800 KB.
BTW, I'm not sure VCD/SVCD/XVCD even supports moving buttons. -
Leebo,
Thanks for your insight. I loaded the .c2d file with the cd emulator. The source clip itself in the MPEGAV directory is about 820MB. The moving button menu (2 of them) are each about 2 MB (in the SEGMENT directory).
It looks like a bug in VideoPack. As I said earlier that the same big file if cut up into 11 pieces produces about 720MB of files in the MPEGAV directory, which is the size of the original big clip.
Videopack does support moving button menus with sound in VCD/xVCD and SVCD formats. Cause I am able to make one and test it using the CDROM emulator.
The way I was making my big mpeg file was joining together clips which were in xVCD with transitions made in VCD format. The starting of the file was a 3 second VCD clip which had titles. On reencoding this 3 second VCD clip also in xVCD format (1500 kbps CQ_VBR), and joining it again to the big mpeg file, I was able to make the CD image, and this time the image size was correct = 745 MB
I am able to burn 750 MB in my CD-R.
There is also a bug in the moving button menu scheme. You have to make the button "Still frame" and then toggle it back to "Preview" for it to pick up the preview pointer you have placed on the mpeg file.
Thanks

"You have to make the button "Still frame" and then toggle it back to "Preview" for it to pick up the preview pointer you have placed on the mpeg file."
B4 selecting "preview" for your motion button, do this:
When you insert a chapter point, make sure to click on the frame in the filmstrip where you want the motion button to reference.
When you go back to set the button to preview, it will now preview from the proper place.
