    Hi all

I'm getting my new PIoneer 108 this Monday & I'd like to know how to configure it.

At present I have the following drives on the various channels:

    IDE1 - HDD - Master
    IDE1 - DVD ROM - Slave

    IDE2 - CD-RW - Master

When I come to install my new DVD burner where should it go?

Also, If I decide to buy a new HDD, which device am I best sacrificing?

    Many thanks for your help

    IDE1 - HDD - Master
    IDE1 - DVD ROM - Slave

    IDE2 - DVD burner - Master
    IDE2 - CD-RW - Slave

    IDE3 - HDD
    IDE3

    IDE4
    IDE4

This is using an expansion card.
For new HUGE drive, you almost need to anyway.

as lordsmurf wrote about getting a expansion card the set up could be like down below.....that way you can hook up all the hard drives to the CONTROLLER CARD....then use your motherboard IDE's for your dvd-rom, dvdrw and cdrw....i have mine set up like that....

    ATA PCI CONTROLLER CARD:
    IDE 1 PRIMARYMASTER- HARD DRIVE
    IDE 1 PRIMARYSLAVE - 2ND HARD DRIVE

    IDE 2 SECONDARY MASTER -
    IDE 2 SECONDARY MASTER -

MOTHERBOARD IDE 1 - PRIMARY MASTER - DVDRW
    MOTHERBOARD IDE 1 - PRIMARY SLAVE- DVD-ROM

MOTHERBOARD IDE 2- SECONDARY MASTER - CDRW
MOTHERBOARD IDE 2 - SECONDARY SLAVE

If you only get the DVDRW, I'd have:

    IDE1 - HDD - Master
    IDE1 - DVD ROM - Slave

    IDE2 - DVDRW - Master
    IDE2 - CD-RW - Slave

If you then get a bigger HDD, I'd have:

    IDE1 - HDD - Master
    IDE1 - HDD - Slave

    IDE2 - DVDRW - Master
    IDE2 - DVD-ROM - Slave

    (sacrifice the CD-RW)
    If in doubt, Google it.

Thanks guys - keep the suggestions coming!

('though both lordsmurf & jim's suggestions seem to be the way to go...)

Why would you want to keep a cdrw when you have a dvd burner?

Because it's faster than the Pioneer at burning (Lite-On 52x).

I think the Pioneer's weak point is it's CD-R burning, no?

  10. I am having the same problems but a little different. I originally had a DVD-Rom(also 52x burner), and a DVR-106 burner. + HDD. and had the DVD-R and HDD on one ide and the ROM on the other as I needed to rip cd's at high speeds.

Now I have a DVR-108 and want to keep the other 2 drives, using the rom and dvr-108 to burn on the fly. what is the best was to rig it up.

    Thanks

The difference between 24X and 52X is SFA in reality - both these are max burning speeds. The actual times taken are not that far apart.

The other consideration is that you only have four IDE connections by default if you don't have a PCI IDE card.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I would agree with that one. Both the 103 and 105 were that way.

    I go with this plan.
