  1. I am wondering if anyone can suggest where IDVD stores the encoded VOB files. Is there any temp subdirectory somewhere ?
I have noticed that after experimenting with various IDVD projects burned on re-writable media, the available space on my G4 decreases significantly.

Thanks and season greetings to all , specially to the developers and administrators of .. good OSX software.

  2. The iDVD project file is swelling in size. When you first create the project, it is a few hundred K. By the time it is burned it is 4G+.

You can see the contents by Control clicking on the icon (for contextual menu) and selecting Show Package Contents. Inside you will find the mpeg clips, pictures, motion menu items, etc that comprise your project.

Unless you plan to keep burning more copies of the disk, you can deleat the project file. The burned DVD is a kind of back-up, since you can duplicate it using Disk Utility(which will be faster than re-multiplexing the project; multiple copies are best made after the first copy pops out of the drive—otherwise re-multiplexing has to happen).

Unfortunately, you still need to kep the original DV files on your Hard Drive if you plan to burn more from the iDVD project file—despite the fact that all the necessary parts are contained within the file. No one has been able to explain this adequately to me.

  3. Thanks for the input .. I was aware of the way to visualize the packet contents of a IDVD project showing the video and aiff material. The issue is this .. once IDVD multiplexes the menus .. where does it store the VOB files ? It might be that the files are stored temporarily .. and then deleted by the next boot-up.
I suspect though that not everything is deleted .. because by playing around with 2-3 projects (output was sent to a RW disk) I consumed around 10 G of space.. and the individual project cmponents do not sum to that number !!!
