Strange issue with VOB

I have a complete DVD RIP in video_ts folder. When I tried to play individual VOB files with VLC Player, video is completely scrambled, gibberish...not at all watchable. Where as when I selected the completed folder (Open->folder) it plays perfectly. I don't understand why the individual VOBs are not playing. Any suggestions how I can play the individual VOBs? thanks for suggestions.

VLC needs the IFO files to play properly, try MPC or MPCHC.
