    Hello friends !
    I have a problem with a dvd rom drive LG GDR-8162B.
    Pratically, this drive is not able to recognize every cd a put inside.
    But oddly, the drive recognizes every dvd-rom,dvd-r,dvd+r I put inside.
    All the media I used aren't scratched !
    I tried to connect it as Master : no result !
    I tried to select PIO mode for Ide channel : no result !
    I tried to look for a newer firmware but I didn't find anyone.
    Does anyone have good suggestions to fix my problem ?

    CD and DVD use two different lasers, because of the different wavelengths. Some combine the two laser die in the same lens assembly. Maybe your unit has a defective CD laser.

    Thanks Capmaster, but until last week this unit recognized about 200 cds !
