  1. is there an easy and fast way to rip a dvd to half d1 size. i want to keep the subtitles, just resize the movie.

    You need to re-encode and there's nothing quick and easy about that.

    Try dvd Rebuilder. There is option to "resize to 1/2 d1" in options> avs options. You can use the free internal encoder or for better quality use cce basic about $60.

    There's lots of advice/guides on Doom9.org site. Rb is a bit tricky to set up but once it's working it's very easy to use. Try different versions of the decoder MPEG2dec3.dll until you find one that works, put a copy in windows system 32 folder and avisynth plugins folder. This is what solved my no output problem.     No fast and easy way to rip a full D1 movie to half D1 - you must re-encode.
