  1. Ok, I have a video clip that I'm trying to get prepared for a DVD burn. It's got the XViD codec on it, and the audio is coming up as 126 kb/s VBR at 48000 hz. Now the clip itself plays fine, but when I go to load the clip into VirtualDub as described in the one walkthrough on the site I get an error message.
The message says: "VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file (audio stream 1). The current preference is to rewrite the audio header with standard VBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may introduce up to 44993ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the entire audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file, and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate 125.8 + 17.4 kbps)"
Now I did save the wav file, and used it as my source file for the audio when encoding in TMPGEnc for DVD. When the final encoding is done, I played the output file and the audio is choppy and is off sync with the film now, where as before the encoding it wasn't. How can I fix this??

Oh, and the guide im using to do this is found on this page. https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=222898

Thanks a million for those that can help me!!

Did you make sure that the audio was 48 Khz before encoding? Sometimes during the re-encoding, a file that is originally 44 Khz or something else can cause the problem you describe.

  4. When you saved the audio file as a wav file, was the audio in virtual dub in the full processing mode? In other words before you save the wav file, choose audio>full processing mode in vdub.

  8. At the top of vdub click on the word streams. From the drop down box choose stream list. A new window will pop up with info on your video file . Right click on the info and a new drop down box will appear. Choose full processing mode. Now save your wav file.

  9. Laddydaddy is correct. The VBR audio is your problem.

The easy and safe way to deal with a DivX or Xvid has that VBR MP3 is to load the AVI file into GOLDWAVE then save the audio as a 16-bit 48k Stereo PCM WAV file (which should be the default).

Then in TMPGEnc you load the AVI as your video source but you load the PCM WAV file as your audio source.

VirtualDub is ill suited for this type of audio processing.

    Use GOLDWAVE.

It is the cheapest full featured AUDIO EDITING program you can find and you can use it for a while in the trail mode before it locks up and must be paid for to continue further use.

  16. i have adobe audition installed in my computer. how would i save it in the proper format with it. i already extracted the audio into audition..now i have save as brought up...but under the windows pcm (.wav) format it doesn't give me the option to pick the bit rate or anything. so could i use this program instead of goldwave?

I don't have Adobe Audition so someone else will have to chime in on that.
