Load the DivX AVI into VirtualDubMod and then frameserve to TMPGEnc Plus.
Doing so will slow down the encoding time somewhat but for some reason this "trick" will often work (full encode) whereas loading the file directly into TMGPEnc Plus causes a crash.
If you are lucky it will be that simple.
It could be that the DivX AVI has "bad frames" or some other problems that frameserving cannot "hide" from TMPGEnc Plus.
What type of audo does this DviX AVI file use? Most often it is MP3 audio. In that case you want to separate the audio and process it separately from the video.
If you have MP3 audio the best thing is to open the AVI into a sound editing program such as GoldWave or Soundforge. Once you do that you can save it as a 48k 16-bit Stereo PCM WAV audio file. Then you can convert that to AC-3 or MP2 or whatever you want on the DVD (you can even use the PCM WAV file although that takes up a HUGE amount of space).
