Hello,
I will be getting an ATI 128mb ddr or 256mb ddr 9200.
KevinDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
I Have a ATI Radeon 9200 128 MB in my daughters computer and I have a ATI Saphire Raeon 9600 Pro Advantage 256 MB in mine I used to have Nvida cards but ATI work good.
-
it's back and forth...there's no clear winner they keep out doing eachother. which is a good thing because those are the two companys that keep raising the bar. i guess i have to vote for ati though because thats my main card aiw9800 pro

Wow. What a few years will do to the unquestioned market leader. Back in 1999, who would have thought ATI would be in a such a position?
Edit: make that 11 for ATI thanks to Bazooka. -
I always use nVidia cards, since I have had several bad experiences with ATI cards. However, ATI price their top-of-the-line cards extremely aggressively compared to nVidia and so offer a much better deal. This could turn the tide again.
I would consider either for my next card. -

I have both. I like the Nvida cards for the features, but have a hard time setting up second monitors or TV out. The ATI cards seem a little easier to set up. No opinion on performance differences, seems to depend on the individual card and application.

I go between them constantly. GeForce3 beat Radeon 8500, the Radeon 9000 series beat the GeForce FX series, Geforce 6000 series is currently winning due to Directx 9.0c support, etc. Competition is good
Your base? Well, they belong to me now... -
I'll take whatever is the best deal these days. Several years back ATi was hurt by poor driver support so I never used one. About the time the 9000 series came out the drivers were better, now they're plenty on-par with nVidia. The X800 XT and 6800 Ultra are very close in stats so I'd take either, especially since I know I can power either pretty easily. I was very disappointed in capture quality from the AIWs. However I was also disappointed with the capture quality of the PCE versions of nVidia cards so the clear winner there is dedicated PCI capture devices.
I give my nod to nVidia since that's what is powering every desktop in my house (including one Mac). I also used a Parhelia for a while which was a fantastic multi-display card, beating out mainstream competitors for years.FB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming -
I remember when Matrox actually used to be mainstream. :P I like ATI myself, the only nVidia card I've ever used is in my laptop. No real complaints but I'm not very demanding. It's not like I'm trying to run D3 on my Satellite. I will say that I'm disappopinted that I can't run anything higher than 1280x1024 on my 16" LCD, but that's probably not nVidia's fault. I DID have a problem with my Radeon 9700 Pro locking up my system and sold it to a buddy (who I'm assuming hasn't had problems with it). I'm not really brand loyal, whoever has the most bang for the buck along with the best compatibility and support.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
How about this question then:
Which one of these cards looks sillier?
The 6800's oversized and cumbersome appearance reminds me, ominously of the 3DFX Voodoo5 5500....whom NVIDIA bought.
-
I voted for ATI, but I'm not a gamer so it really doesn't matter to me. So far all of my builds have been with ATI.

im planning to buy a new video card for Half Life 2...this thread gave me a tip or two

ATI 9800. This is my first ATI card and I shall be going back to Nvidia at next upgrade.
Buddha says that, while he may show you the way, only you can truly save yourself, proving once and for all that he's a lazy, fat bastard. -
Nvidiaaaaaaaaa. I'm gonna upgrade to the 6600 GT card......the new nvidia 6800gt and ati x800pro are way too expensive.
-
I was 3dfx from the voodoo 1 up to the voodoo 3, then I bought an Nvidia GF3, which I have now, but waiting at the post office is an ATI card, so I go for whatever offers best bang for the buck at the time.
That double sized nvidia card above is huge, but ati has just started doing the double-wide thing as well.
This, however, is the best: Dual Nvidia. Fast as hell, and costs enough that nobody with the money to buy them has enough free time to use them:
-
Ugh, SLI. The one reason I need to purchase a new system next spring (dual Opteron?).
baldrick: Are there AGP variants of the 6600 cards out now? For a while I thought those were going to be PCI-E only cards. I always get the card one step down from the best at the time, usually ends up being a pretty good deal. Except for that GFX 5600 Ultra, that didn't run so hot in the workstation so it got demoted to internet machine use I got a middle-of-the-road Quadro in there instead.FB-DIMM are the real cause of global warming -

ATI. I love my all-in-wonder card, although it's getting a bit long in the tooth ( Rage128 Pro ). When I do replace it, It'll probably be a Sapphire Radeon AIW.
Oh, and my laptop has a Radeon 9200 Mobile. We'll be right back after these messages from Binford! -
You don't need to worry about getting behind by not having PCI-E. The only thing you're really missing out on now is SLI which is, as was so eloquently put, prohibitively expensive. I still use a now two generation-old video card in my other workstation and it runs most new games pretty well. I think even if GPU manufacturers stopped making AGP cards (which isn't very likely at all) you'd still be good with the latest ones for at least a few years.
