  1. I do not want to expand my desktop. I want it to be a clone.

Is there a way when its on clone to tell it to send the video to my TV? My TV res is way smaller then my monitor...

If I make a video full screen its very zoomed in on my TV but fine on my regular desktop... I remember once there was a way to send the video to a specific monitor...

It's all in the drivers. I haven't had an nVidia card in a few years, but the drivers had all the settings to do this. You just need to explore a bit more or check out the nVidia site.

This is from the nVidia knowledge base : http://nvidia.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/nvidia.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=32&p_cre...i=&p_topview=1

For clone mode, most cards require either downsizing the desktop to a supported S-Video out screen size (e.g. 800x600 or 1024x768) or windowing the S-video at those resolutions out from a larger desktop. The windowed resolution will be downsized to S-video at ~ 6MHz x 480 or 576 lines. On the TV this will look approximately like 500x480 or about cable resolution.

Higher end cards support higher resolution TV out through analog component YPbPr, DVI or HDMI at 720x480p, 1280x720p or 1920x1080i. This requires an HDTV. 1280x720p would still be windowed if the desktop is 1280x1024 or larger.

  4. well right now my monitor uses 1600x1200 and by TV is like 1024x768... so to view it all it sort of is only able to display 1024x768 of my screen, and you basically move the mouse to view the part (ex lets say the screen is at top left, moving the mouse down or to the right would make the screen move, kind of likes its scrolling).

Right now I either need to change to attached, or try to size the video exactly the right size of my tv out. Obviously that solution is not very useful considering:
-It takes lots of work to setup
-moving the mouse in the wrong direction means I need to re-setup
-I need to size the video manually.
-when a video goes on the next item in my playlist I need to re-size again

Or change your resolution to 1024 x 768 on your monitor before cloning out to your TV. TVs are simply not capable of displaying that high a resolution. You are lucky you can output 1025 x 768. Some cards will not let you go over 800 x 600 when feeding a TV.

In my setup for non-svideo connection , all I need do is right click on the video file , and select "play on tv" , and its their in full screen mode .

Cloning dose require the pc screens resolution to be trimmed back , for better quality , but fonts will always remain the problem when viewed .

Then there's that stupid idea mode , where the playback program can be set to tv out , still leaving the pc free , yet in control ... for dvd , that means being able to change the viewed aspect , audio , and subs .

This all depends on the driver package that came with the unit ... the 5200 , 5500 which I still have , do this ... have not got around to testing the one in the new p4 system as yet .

That is exactly what I am looking for.... I remember there was a draw back, but I do not remember what is was...

Id say for the past 5 years I have been using my TV's as a extension... problem is some games will not work with it (C&C3, gererals, etc (mouse will go over in my tv and screw up my game))

Ok , they suck , just went to test the 6600le on the new system , and it surprised me with two options .

Pc screen or HDTV ... What the ? ... ah , I need the other adapter installed with the single rca output .

Well it seems the card comes with two adapters , but the svideo 4 pin one supplied is shite , black and white only ... morons .

Someone , who thinks they are an authority on these things over at nvidia help site , said the 4 pin cable should work ... Bull shite .

The 7pin svideo adapter I picked up for the dell D610 lappy dose work , and in colour ... well , what do you know , I know what I am talking when it comes to these seven pin outputs .

    ----

Ok , now that I can test it , this is what it dose .

Vga set to clone mode only .

Most videos associated with a program , will play in their respective programs briefly on tv screen , then go to full screen , while remaining in normal display mode back on pc screen .

Others give the option when right clicked on , to "send to tv"

On pc , send it to taskbar , and continue to work .

Mouse should not cause issue during game play , although usb mice have been known to cause problems in some games ... mine's always ps2 , because of three reasons .

1: Usb mice dont work when navigating bios ... some older systems from pc partner supported this feature .
2: In safe mode , under xp they work , but other , older os's , they dont ... I repair pcs a lot .
3: By default they dont work in pure dos , unless drivers have been supplied ... which they nolonger supply .

    Well throw in

4: Linux ... when xp gose down for the count ... linux comes to the rescue in many ways .

Two things that would make things better :

1: I'd be happy if they'd stop playing about with cables , and send the correct one's that actually work .
2: Provide better linux support .
