TMPGEnc Plus, CCE, Mainconcept .... there's any number of Dedicated MPEG Encoders around. I use TMPGEnc Plus, BTW. If you want quick n easy (at the expense of control and options), you could try the All-in-one tools listed here.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Do you want to get your hands dirty, or would you prefer something where you can just chuck an AVI into it and it'll do the thinking for you ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

OK. We'll look at some of the All-In-One tools then ...

I'd suggest that you follow the All-In-One tools list that I linked to above, and select a couple of the tools in there, read the user comments, maybe download a couple and give them a go. Don't forget to look for any guides for the tool in question (listed just above the user comments).

In the past I've used DVDSanta, NeroVision Express, TheFilmMachine and WinAVI Video Converter, so from my point of view, naturally I'd suggest you research these first, as I can vouch for them being pretty easy to pick up.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I happen to get dvd santa but it didn't do its job. What i want is a program that will put an avi such as divx of xvid into mpeg format so when i use TMPGEnc DVD Author i can select this mpeg file and put it into the program to work.

Even though you've got IFOs, BUPs & VOBs from DVDSanta, you can still import these straight into TMPGEnc DVD Author - just use the Add DVD Video button instead of the Add File button
    If in doubt, Google it.

It's sort-of a "three steps forward, one step back" method, but at least it means you don't have to concern yourself with dozens of settings when converting to MPEG.
    If in doubt, Google it.
