Hi all,
I would like to use DVD Author to make 10 AVI eps movies in a DVD.
But TMPgenc DVD Author will not allow to do with AVI, so I use Ulead MovieFactory to do it. But it keep frozen . If I use TMPgen Source Creator to convert AVI to mpg then use TMGenc DVD Author or Ulead MovieFactory then it will take time to do that, I will lose at least 3-4 hrs to convert , anyone have any idea ? I hope you can share your opinion , if I use Nero Vision then it may take 6 hrs-10 hrs, because I think it eps is 30 minutes, then Nero will do it like we watch the movie, what software can do that with a short time and good quality if you were me
Thanks for sharing.

Hello,
It's going to take time to convert avi to mpeg no matter what program you use.
The fastest option would be to buy a divx capable dvd player. Then all you have to do is copy the avi file and it will play it without converting.
Other than that add more RAM

Either way you go it's going to take time to encode to MPEG. My advice is to use the application that does the most the fastest with the quality you want. Some people swear by 2-pass encoding and others say 1-pass is good enough.
Do some small sample files using the various methods. Keep track of the total time for each. Then review the quality of the finished product. It's be a good idea to use the exact same segment for all methods ...say the first 10 minutes of a clip. Then decide on the best quality/time tradeoff -
Oh yeah I did not think about that . But if we copy directly to DVD then, we will have no menu and it is hard when you turn it off and want to see it again , can we forward then it go to next eps or foward to the middle of the 5th eps ?
Just wonder -

Capmaster,
Good I will do it with Nero Vison Express and see how it looks, thanks for your advice .

No offense intended Capmaster. First, I agree that moviefactory would be the most efficient, but it sounds like it won't work for him. I have had similar problems with both moviefactory and WS2. It's very frustrating to invest a lot of time into a project and have it freeze or error out while rendering. I wish I had not invested all that money into ulead products. (vegas purchase soon?) Sabercats, I doubt more rams would help. You have a pretty robust system already. It's possible there are bad frames in your avi's? You might run them through virtualdub and scan for and remove bad frames. (This may also be why moviefactory freezes). With the software you've mentioned you're most efficient probably using source creator to encode. It's very easy to do batch processing. Set it up and walk away, though I would still scan for bad frames first. Then come back later or tomorrow to author.
