  1. Hey, sorry if something like this was posted before, but I've searched and haven't found a solution.

I'm converting an .avi file to mpeg2 to write to DVD. I've used VirtualDubMod to demux the audio stream, then used BeSweet to convert it to either Mpeg-1 layer 2 or AC3 (tried both). I write the DVD and test it on my tv, only problem is that the sound is only coming from one speaker, the left. I try the same DVD on my computer and it's in stereo. I find that odd. I opened the file in a wave editor and it appears to be stereo (left and right channels are not identical).

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how to correct it? I guess I could convert it to mono, but if it's in stereo I don't want to lose 2-ch. Thanks.

  2. There would be no point in converting it to mono. If your PC can play it in stereo, it is a problem with the TV. Unfortunately, I have very few suggestions. Check all your connections are tight - a loose SCART lead can cause this. Look in the menus of your TV and ensure everything is OK - try different audio modes.

My TV has a similar problem. I've got it connected to some computer speakers via. the headphone port. When playing a DVD, it is fine - stereo. However, when using the digital TV box, sound only comes out the right speaker. The solution is simply to switch the audio mode from Stereo to Dual. No idea why, but you could try something similar with your TV.

PS - Just moved you to the Newbie/General forum. This isn't conversion.

One thing you can try is use ffmpeggui to encode the audio to mp2 or ac3 and see if that works. Also try feeding the audio out from your dvd player straight to your stereo to rule out loose connectors as Cobra mentioned.
