  1. Hi - I'm a newbie to DVD Authoring and am trying to decide if this is the best way to store my divx recordings.

Basically, I want to know - if I author a DVD from a DivX avi and then sometime in the future want to create another DivX from my new DVD, will i get a reduction in quality?

I assume that if any video I author to DVD is less than perfect (which it usually is with divX), ripping that DVD back to DivX will reduce quality further.

    Is this right?

Apologies if this is on the wrong forum.

    Hello,

Why don't you just save your divx files as data on a dvdr??? That way you won't have to convert them after you make your dvd from them.

Yes you will lose some quality going from any format to another. Best to keep a backup of your avis.

  3. And if you get a DVD player that can play Divx files you can watch your Divx files on TV.

Every conversion between "not lossless" formats reduces quality. The DivX was probably a DVD to start with, losing some quality when encoded as DivX. Recreating a DVD from the DivX will introduce a furter drop in quality, and then back to DivX again will surely be a noticable quality decrease.
