  1. Yes I have a problem with my dvd-rom on my laptop. I have a burned dvd on dvd-r, and I have played it back on my laptop before. It also will play on a standalone dvd player because I burned the dvd with dvd decrypter. Anyway, it has played on my laptop before, but for some reason when I put this dvd and other burned dvd's in my laptop it doesn't even register that there is anything in the dvd-rom. Like I'll go to my computer and click on the E drive for the dvd rom and it is blank like there isn't even a disk in there. My computer just started doing this recently. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this. Perhaps its a driver issue? If so any advice on how to fix this. Thanks to all who respond.

  3. Some disks work some dont. Its being really fickle. Like I said though, the ones it doesn't work on. It has read those disks before, so I know its capable of reading them. But sometimes it just acts like there is no disk in there. Do you think it could be a virus?

With my laptop, I have to clean the DVD laser lens every month or two. It's an HP and the lens mechanism is exposed when the tray opens. Good for cleaning, but bad for getting dirty. When it gets a little dirty, it has tracking problems and won't always recognize a disk, especially DVD.

I would try cleaning it first.

  5. I'll give that a try as soon as I get some computer duster.

  6. Well I air dusted my laser, and that didn't seem to help. But now that I cycle through my dvds I notice that i'm only having a problem with my dvd-r. My dvd+r are playing fine. However, I have been able to play dvd-r on my dvd-rom before. Maybe I acidentally turned something off so these wont play all the time now.

Or Swisstec? - All my backups faded away after 4 months. Have you tried the disc in a standalone player? If you get the same result, your discs have gone the same way as mine.

  9. The ones i'm having problems with are TDK. I'm sure they will play in a stand alone though.
