Hello everyone-I've encountered some problems with SVideo capture from my Sony Hi8 VCR. Using either Ulead Video Studio 6 or Movie Factory 2, the capturing starts out fine, then after about five minutes, the video starts to become distorted; a flashing white band appears at the top of the frame and gets worse and worse. Sometimes, an error screen comes up saying the video signal has a problem.
I've only captured short analog clips since getting the AIW9800Pro, so this is the first time I've had this problem, it only starts after five minutes or so. If I had to guess what it was, I would say it's something you need a Time Base Corrector for, but I hope that's not the case. I've only got a few analog tapes left so I'm not going to buy any more gear.
Perhaps using the ATI MMC instead of the editing software might be the call, but I think it's something more.
Any ideas, information or advice on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance-Ron B

I and many others have come arcross the same problem www.nepadigital.com/mv There's some example clips at the bottom. If it's the same I'm afraid the only solution is a TBC or other external video enhancer.

Dagnabit, I was afraid of that. I remember the effect from the old SVHS to SVHS VCR days. TBCs are at least $200-$300, is there anything cheaper that will work? I've got about 35 Hi8 tapes I need to digitize; I can dub them to MiniDV, what a hassle but that's one way to go. Not a big fan of using my Sony TRV900 as a dubbing deck.
Anyway, thanks for your help. From the small world department; my Dad was born in Verona. Ron B

You can try a cheaper sima video enhancer, might work but I don't know. My computer vendor replaced my AIW before I had a chance to experiment with one of those devices. Can you use the Sony as a pass through to convert it to DV?

BTW, small world but a big state. I looked up Verona. It's about 7 hours from where I am.

    Good Luck!

If I need a TBC, I'll probably go with the Tvone AVT-8710. I learned my lessons long ago about the cheap stuff. It's always something, and with video production, that something always costs money. The TRV 900 is an excellent 3CCD camera, but has no pass-through. My mint Sony EVC-100 Hi8 deck is nearly a collector's item, I'm sad to see it's going to need some help to work in the digital age.
PA is a wide state. Growing up in NE Ohio, I did a lot of camping and fishing at Lake Pymatuming.
    Thanks again.
