  1. I am very new at this and just got a HP cdwriter 9500 internal for my computer. My friend got ahold of a movie that was burnt on 2 cd-r disc and I copied each to my hard drive and burned them back to a blank cd-r but when I try to play my cd-r copies on a home DVD player which does support cd-r it comes up with a menu like on a computer. When I play my friends it works fine. How can I get them from my hard drive on to a cd-r?

If I want to copy from a store bought movie on DVD to a cd-r how will I do that. It is all on 1 cd will I do it the same as the way I will for the above problem. If anyone could email me at morgan@techsource.org and let me know how to accomplish this I would GREATLY appreaciate it. If I need software just let me know what I need.

    Many Thanks

If you used disk copy it should of worked, if your dvd player supports vcd, did your friends copy play on your player? You can also use vcd gui and rip the mpeg file off your friends disk then try and burn a vcd using your software.

  4. I used HP CD software to do a disk copy and my versions didn't work it came up with a funny menu on the screen. His copy worked fine. Another movie I tried to copy I couldn't do a disk copy because one of the files was 721 meg so it wouldn't fit on my CD-R. So thats when I copied them in Windows Explorer to my hard drive and now I don't know what to do with them. I am running windows 2000 and the 721 meg file comes up as a .dat file. Do I need to convert these files and compress them and then burn them to a cd-r. What software do I need? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks

  5. Wes,

You are halfway home my man. Those two dat files sitting on your hard disk should be converted to mpg using VCDGear found to the left on this site. Then you would take each mpg and burn it with NERO, EZCD etc., as a VCD. Presto! Don't worry about the 721 meg file size since the VCD disc format allows for 74 minutes of video which can be larger than the available CDR disc space.

  6. You were burning the discs as data discs... a data disc just hold files (like how you put contents of a disc onto a blank disc)... a VCD is a CD that is burned in a certain way so that it contains all the files in the right places for your DVD player to find them.

The menu you are getting is your DVD player giving you the option to play files on your data disc. Since you are wanting to make a VCD, you should...

    1. Copy the disc directly and not copy it to your hard drive first.

    2. Just as mentioned above, take the .dat files (which is an MPG that a DVD player can read), convert them to .mpg, and use Nero to burn them to a VCD.

The guides on the left will help you with the Conversions (in the CONVERT section) and the Authoring (in the AUTHOR section).

    Good luck.

If you want to keep cd creator as your burning software, then I would downlaod vcdeasy as it is free and you can keep cd creator on your puter.
