  1. I search this forum (I think Newbie Conversion is where I would find this topic) and didn't find very much about converting from DVD to WMV. Is there a guide which outlines this process? I know you can rip to AVI and then convert to WMV, but I have also heard about single-step tools (although I don't know what they are) and some that make use of the WMAPro for 5.1 surround.

So, what the highest quality way to convert a DVD to WMV? Ideally, this process would involve the least amount of steps, but really I just want a high quality backup of my DVDs that I can play in my media center.

I'm pretty new at this, so telling me to conver to AVI and then use Media Encoder doesn't make a lot of sense. i.e. What do I need to do to get it into the correct AVI, etc?

    Thanks!

  3. Thanks for the link -- I got this installed last night and played around with it, however, the quality isn't very good, so I'm going to keep looking.

Is there a way to dump a DVD clip to AVI? I sure there are hundreads, so I guess I'm looking for the best one which will allow me to mark start and end segments. Which I can then use to convert to WMV using the Windows Media Encoder?
