  1. I just bought a 100 of the Ridata DVD-Rs from Shop4Tech based on the recommendations in the media section that most people with the 811S had great success with them. But the first 3 I tried were all coasters? I tried two at 4x, then tried another at 2x, but they all fail shortly into the burn process. I’m using using Nero 6.3. Any suggestions? I’ve never updated the firmware, mainly because I’ve been a little scared to, but is that what I need to do…and is it pretty simple? Thanks, Mike

I'm currently on my second 50-pack of the ridata G04 discs. I had around 5 bad discs from the first batch.....they weren't recognized when the burn process was about to start. I think you need to update to the latest firmware......I updated twice already and its a really simple process.

  3. How do I know which one to get, or do I just grab the latest one? Seems like I've heard people saying not to get certain versions. And where's the best place to get them, Liteon's web site and is it just an executable that you download and launch? I've never done it before so I'm clueless. Thanks, Mike

Well i have the latest version on my 811s. Just run the exe file.......not much to it. Everyone has different experiences with these lite-on drives...but mine has been really reliable and good with burns...

  5. How do you tell what version of the firmware you currently have installed?

  6. I bought one of those drives, or similar , made 3 coasters in a row, called Lite-on tech support on a SUNDAY NIGHT and actually got a TECH!!!

Look up the tech support number and call it if need be!

As with all tech support they are used to the people calling about stuff not working but they forgot to plug in the cables and will start off with the dumb questions like is it connected and have a disk in it!!
If you actually DO know what your doing, explain your level of expertise and get past that newbie part quick!! Worked for me, jumped right past the newbie help stuff and right into have I upgraded firmware and other REAL stuff. Turned out though I was told the drive was defective and to return it

I had 4x Riteks and cheapo 1xor 2xs I turned to coasters with that bad drive.

Only Lite-on drive I ever had I did not like, or had a problem with, but tech support was good (on a sunday night).

  7. I'm pretty sure its not the drive because I've had it for over 6 months and been burning pretty much without incident with other media. It was just when I tried the G04s that I had the problem, but I thought they were supposed to be fine with the 811s, thats whats got me puzzled.

Well I'm thinking its just a bad batch that you got. I don't think the G04 discs are what it used to be.....but for me its been ok. I don't think the 811s is a bad drive......its on par with others.
