DVDlab seems to be good in editing. As far as I can discover it has no capturing function or am I missing something? If what I see is right then the user has to capture the video using other software. My question to DVDlab users, what do you prefer to use to capture DV via firewire so that you get the best quality from DVDlab and in what format? Help is welcome. Thanks.

DVDLab is a DVD authoring program, not a video editor or capture program. It wants to see DVD-compliant MPEG-2 files.
Re your question about DV, depending on what I'm doing I use IUVCR or Ulead or WinDV to capture in DV format, I do my editing in a dedicated NLE, export as DV-AVI and then MPEG encode in TMPGEnc before importing into DVDLab for authoring.
