Came across yet another episode disc that DVDFab (2.10) refuses to split. Just bought the two Starsky & Hutch boxsets and Season One, Discs Two & Three are a no-go (did D1, however!). Went and tried the DVDRemake demo on D2 and it keeps stating that there's mismatches between the ifo & vob's when it tries to import the disc. Like I have to keep hitting enter on popups a zillion times!

sounds like a very strangely authored DVD and it's probably been done on purpose
did you rip the DVD first before importing into DVDRemake or use it direct?
the good thing about DVDRemake is that it tries to fix the mismatches and suceeds in most cases. If it doesn't then that's where I come in
. It's a shame as you just have the demo and therefore cannot export it to test whether it can fix it
seeing as it's an episodic DVD and at no extra expense can you not use something like vobblanker to do it, or even DVDshrink if compression is not affected when replacing the unwanted episodes?. I know CloneDVD etc will remove them also but why pay $'s for it? -
I tried the demo just to see if it would import it. Kept complaining via popups that the vob's don't match the ifo and I'd have problems exporting the DVD. Tried importing from the disc itself & as well as ripping it all w/ DVDDecrypter in file mode, then importing again. Same results. Seems to me that if the demo won't import it, then the full version will most likely do the same?
Then I tried using IFO mode rips by PGC in Tmpgenc DVD Author and it tells me it can't open the IFO files; or if taking the clips directly from the disc, it states that: a) the video sequence header is incorrect & b) the video GOP is too long.
Looks to me like less-than-perfect authoring of the discs. Only option left is to run them through DVDShrink @52% (each disc is ~8.1GB).Like a flea circus at a dog show! -
you would need something like AnyDVD or DVD43 to be running if importing direct from the DVD with DVDRemake
if you can get them through DVDShrink then use that and rip at No Compression. Use Voblanker afterwards and then run it through DVDShrink again
or you can use the 'replace' feature of DVDShrink and just blank out the titles from each DVD. The compression shouldn't be that much then
as a last resort as it's longer you could use DVDStripper as that splits the DVD by using DVDDecrypter to rip by cells. Remove the cells containing the episodes you don't want and Ifoedit will rebuild it for you. You can also use Menumodder to disable the buttons to those removed episodes -
Gonna try some of those other freeware proggies you mentioned. DVDFab doesn't like the Battlestar Galactica box, either. That one comes on six flipper discs which are a combo of DVD14's & DVD18's. Was gonna do the SL sides w/ DVDDecrypter and split the DL's.
Incidently, the Starsky & Hutch boxes are triple-region (1,3,4) w/ RCE. Not sure if that has any relevance, but worth mentioning.Like a flea circus at a dog show!
