When I insert the DVD into the dvd-writer on my computer. The icon in 'My Computer' changes to a DVD-R and label says 'CD Drive'. When I open it, there are no files contained inside, I know the movie works because I can play it on my standalone DVD player. When I try to play it in PowerDVD, an error comes up saying "A disc with an unsuppoted format in drive E".

Does anyone know of this problem? I was speculating that it might be a dvd-ram disc, but I doubt that even my standalone can play dvd-ram's.

You could try cleaning the lens in your burner.

Is the disc scratched or dirty in any way? Some players are more fogiving than others.

Nope, can't see any scratches. I looked at it pretty closely for about a minute. There's just a sticker (label) on the top surface, thats the only thing i would say thats unusual about the disc. But I dont think that really affects how the dvd-writer reads the disc.
