  1. Hey guys, before I start with my problems I'll tell you my setup. I have a sony wega 34" widescreen tv, A sony dvd home theater system (dvd player and reciever/amp all in one), I have the video aspect of the home theatre system hooked up through component cables. I have just recently bought digital cable so I have the digital cable box (not an hdtv reciever) hooked up to my tv through s-video. I have no audio hooked in to my tv because I have the audio cables (just the regular red and white ones because there is no optical out) hooked from my home theatre reciever/amp to my digital cable box, I also have a cable splitter between my VCR and digital cable box (just in case I want to tape something).

So here's the deal, ever since I hooked up my digital cable I am noticing some video "noise." Basically it is horizontal wavy lines, only noticeable in darker parts of the picture.

I am also noticing an audio thing, when I play a dvd with DD5.1 I am noticing that in big sequences that should be loud (like when Hulk is fighting the Hulk dogs in the movie Hulk) the sound pitches out quieter which is weird. And then it gets louder when there is not as much action.

I know I have probably confused some of you guys, but does anyone know how I can fix these problems?

    Thanks,

    Tim

    Hello,

Have you changed your digital output choice on your dvd player? All of them have the dolby digital output on choice somewhere in the setup. Also, I assume your receiver still has the subwoofer on choice active? (obvious yes but just a reminder).

I can't help much on the video question. Though, do you have a lot of switches? How long are the cables? Short distances are always preferable to preserve quality. Also, do you have the fiber optic cable or coaxial going straight to the receiver?

    Kevin

P.S. Sorry if these have already been explored, just throwing out some suggestions.

---You could invest in a signal booster if your picture wavers, though try hooking the dvd player video out DIRECTLY to the tv to ensure the sharpest picture-----

The picture problem is only in DVD's and I have the integrated home theatre hooked directly into my tv with monster component cables. I have the audio part (just regular RCA cables) hooked into my digital box.

A lot of amps have an audio attenuation feature, sometimes called midnight mode, which is meant to balance the softer and louder passages to allow listening at lower volume levels. If you have switched this on, and cranked up your volume, you will get the symptoms you are describing.
