  1. Is there a freeware program out there that will allow you to edit MPEG-1's to remove commercials? Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it.

    Thanks

  2. Hi Dave,

The "Merge & Cut" function in TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools will let you to this to a degree. This method does not allow frame accurate cutting, so a couple of frames of advertisements will probably have to stay, but in general this works quite well.

  3. Someone mentioned using the "mark-in" "mark-out" features of VirtualDub and then frameserving and encoding to TMPGenc...that seems like the best and easiest method to me.....MUCH LESS WORk.

  5. The frameserving method is definitely the way to go if you've got an avi as your source.

However, if the source is already mpeg-1, frameserving means that you're re-encoding video that has already been encoded which results in a loss of quality and also takes longer much than simply cutting the mpeg-1 file itself.

  6. CARNEDV, if you already have MPEG1 files (VCD), id express using MyFlix.

IMO, tmpgenc is not as presice as myflix is when cutting and joining files. its all i seem to need to use... GL!

  7. WOuld it not be possible to plug the MPEG into VirtualDUb, Mark in and OUt the commercials, Frameserve as an AVI, and then simple remux the video and Audio from the same AVI thus NOT reencoding AND being incredibly fast?

  8. Hi mark,

you've just answered your own question.

Frameserving means that the video is changed into uncompressed AVI in the process - just not as a whole file but frame by frame. These frames can then be read by TMPGEnc which has to re-encode them to mpeg-1.
