  1. this would be more for a beginner if possible, i used to do a lot of avi-svcd converting and what not, but now i've got a dvd writer. so in your experiences (and that means any one) which method, or which programs, yeild the best results for a dvd-ripped avi to a dvd?

    thanx for any help.

PS. here are two other questions, if ya can't answer them, no worries, ill post about them later:
    1) how would i convert a PAL movie (it's at 25fps, so i'm pretty sure that's pal) to dvd as ntsc w/o major quality loss or aspect ratio stretching/shrinking?
    2) if i'm burning episodes of something onto a dvd, would i have to join all the avis? or could i just add them to the dvd as seperate mpegs?

Not sure what you mean by a 'dvd-ripped avi'. If you are backing up a regular DVD, then DVDShrink.

If you mean you have an AVI, What Kind of AVI? If DIVX or XVID, look at TheFilmMachine for one.

Pal conversion; there are several ways. Study the 'Guides' <<<.

For burning episodes; Best way is to use the authoring software to combine the converted MPEG files, a lot less chance of audio sync issues than if you try to combine them before.

Did you do the DVD-->AVI conversions yourself ? If so, it would be better to go from the original DVD to DVDR using DVDShrink or DVD2One for a DVD-9, or DVDDecrypter ISO Read/ISO Write for a DVD-5.

quality loss is not an issue if using an appropriate bitrate and resolution. aspect ratio stretching/shrinking is not an issue if you set this to the same as the source during encoding to MPEG-2. I use TMPGEnc Plus for this.

You can just add them as separate clips. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author for this. If you want each episode to be a chapter, add all clips to the one track. If you want each episode to be an individual title, add 1 clip per track.
    If in doubt, Google it.

To make a pal avi into ntsc open the file with virtualdub and got to video and choose framerate and change to 23.976 and save direct stream and then extract the wav in full process mode and input the wav into besweet and use the 25fps to 23.976 and output as wav and then remux the changed avi and wav with vitualdub and save in direct stream as avi and encode as ntsc mpg.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

if you change the frame rate to 23.976 you'll need the 3:2 pulldown on playback set too.
    If in doubt, Google it.
