ONLY once in a random blue moon will my XP Pro system recognize my Canopus ADVC-50 when I plug it into the embedded TI IEEE 1394 adapter onboard my Abit IS-7 mobo. The rest of the time it REFUSES to recognize it at all!

I've downloaded and installed the "1394Filter" from Canopus, and it worked ONCE immediately thereafter, but it never worked again! Windows simply won't show that a capture device is connected at all. "Add New Hardware" wizard doesn't recognize it either.

What is the problem? What can I do? How do I work around this?

    System: Abit IS-7. 3.2GHz P4. Running XP Pro SP1.
    1G Crucial DDR-400 PC3200 RAM
LSI Logic LSI20320-R UltraSCSI 320 adapter
    1 WD Raptor 73G 10krpm SATA-150
    1 WD 120G 7200rpm SATA-150
    1 Seagate 73G Cheeta UltraSCSI 320

Try a PCI 1394 card. They aren't very expensive. Some onboard 1394 setups have problems with those type of devices. Have you tried it with other Firewire devices such as a video camera?

Other than this, go to the motherboard manufacturer and ask them why.

I had this same problem with my new Dell system. I contacted Canopus support and they provided some 1394 drivers. After that my ADVC-50 always comes up.

Try that and see what happens.

Ditto... my Fasscom MB with onboard 1394 was a tad flakey with both my TDK DVD Burner and SonyDV..... So... disabled and purchased a ADSTech 1394 card... works like a champ

  6. Contact Canopus tech support (via email). It might take a couple of days for a reply. They will send you update 1394 drivers and instructions on a fix.

I had same problem and this was the fix.
