Just throw in movies you thought had endings you really didn't understand, made very little sense, or just didn't fit the movie at all. I expect a lot of movies where the director went all artsy on it.

In 'The Black Hole' I understand the meaning on the ending, but the whole journey through the hole was just nonsense and the union of Maximillian and his creator on a flaming planet that represented Hell, just didn't fit the whole plot. I still thought it was a good movie regardless.

Pay It Forward. Such an unbelievable cop out for an ending. It was just a cheap shot to elicit an emotional response. It has nothing to do with the movie at all.

AI- It should have ended 30 mins earlier when he found the fairy godmother or whatever. The only thing worse than a boring movie is a long and boring movie. They should have just cut their losses. Wonderful imagery in that movie though.

I really think it made the movie that he was finally "happy", if only for one day.

Time Bandits. I absolutely love this silly little movie up until the final encounter against evil. Then it just gets corny. The very end is downright stupid. (I know its supposed to be a warning against technology, it just doesn't work.)

I also agree with AI. The whole movie was good and artsy, and then they drifted after where the ending should have been, just to take an extra 15min. to get some sort of emotional happiness feeling out of the viewer.

Absolutely... When I watched the movie at the cinema, there was the fire alarm that went off as he was sinking into the water and the movie ended. I decided to wait until the DVD was out before watching the ending and immediately realised afterwards that I had just wasted 20 minutes of my life...

The movie should have ended with him stuck in the craft in the water looking at the "blue fairy" for eternity. It would have made a much more powerful symbolic ending.

    Regards.

Hannibal. That whole thing after escaping the pigs is really friggin' weird. I was watching it wondering if it was still part of the movie.

Agreed, like why a glass of water is deadly but moisture in the atmosphere is no problem....

Lost Highway, whole movie was just weird.

A.I. i liked, including the ending. i wasn't sure however whether the beings were supposed to be advanced robots, evolved humans, or cyborgs.

Matrix revolutions. what a dull pissy ending. the "Face" of the machine was totally lame and obviously just a thrown in wizard of oz reference. after seeing the first move i was very excited to see the battle between man and machine - reloaded and revolutions both went totally the wrong way for me

  21. wow...I really killed this thread, didn't I

I'll go one step further by adding movies that had endings that I DO understand but I was left feeling pissed at the director or writer afterwards for the message they were delivering with their ending

    1 MYSTIC RIVER
Don't want to say too much for the reason there are some who still haven't seen it, but I was not OK with the way the film justifies wrongful killings or the way it deals with victims of violence in general.
Was a well made film, but the ending is just not right IMO.

    2 UNFAITHFUL
Was not right for Richard Gere's character to get away with what he did...and I don't think he would get away with it in reality.

    3 FATAL ATTRACTION
I really do not like this movie - I resent pretty much everything it is saying. The SOB that Michael Douglas' character was made me root for the deranged Glenn Close character - who was somone you should actually feel empathy for in this instance...despite the fact that she's pushed over the edge to insanity.
Though both actors are the types you (at least me anyway) would just love to hate - couldn't stand either of 'em!

    4 THE YARDS
I was left still having issues with the Faye Dunaway character - she was the Mark Wahlberg's character's aunt (sister to his mother, Ellen Burstyn's character)...and she was married to the James Caan character...in essence, was responsible for bringing the bad guy into the family (though he is presented as a bad guy with good intentions caught in a catch-22).
The thing is, while Mark Wahlberg is hiding out, his own aunt is the one who wants him out of the picture, saying he's gonna cause them trouble.
Despite she has to lose her own daughter...and eventually her husband (that's supposed to justify her actions?), the audience is supposed to either forgive and forget about it...or the director just ran out of time to resolve everything :P

There are others I feel similar about but had those on my mind at the moment.

Anyway, if anyone cares to add some of their own, we could give some life back to this thread

Advanced robots ... possibly cyborgs but not "evolved humans". In that future, humans were extinct.

  23. Fear X. I simply don't understand the ending. Was the vigilante cop killed or not? And if really not how much of what happened was the main character's imagination?
    Maybe I'm just too stupid...

Rookie64 : For me Mystic River did not justify the wrongfull killings. The feeling I got is that the killer did pay (and I think paid the heaviest price of all) and will continue to pay (and I don't mean money). The connection with the past was NOT coincidence. And the wife's mini speech at the end was NOT congratulatory or soothing. Please do not think I criticise you. It is just that FOR ME it seemed (or felt) this way.
    It wasn't me.

    WARNING: SPOILER WITHIN
    Stephen King's "IT"

It was a disappointment, and the book was too, to find out that this interesting Pennywise character was really a space alien spider :P I suspect that around page 1,000 of the book, Stephen's publishers decided he had had enough time to write the book and gave him a deadline, because the last 150 pages or so were obviously rushed and not well thought out. You can almost pick out the exact page when the book turned from genius into pure crap.

I disagree - I had no problem with it, and (putting on my super-geek suit) the spider wasn't IT's true form either - just it's physical manifestation in this dimension.

I'm a King fan from way back (I actually read IT in one sitting, 13 straight hours, when it came out) but I *am* willing to call crap on his stuff when he phones it in..

That whole damn movie was strange. It did have some great filming to some of its soundtrack pieces though.

Dunno, Trinity had it coming. and i'm sure people cheered when they saw what happened to Neo. the resolution with the machines was disaapointing and a bit wussy, i expected more.

I really didn't want to see Trinity die. Overall, I think the premise of the series was fantastic. It bogged down in trying to explain its new found philosophy, which sounded to me some weird message given by Bill Gates on crack. But I still liked the way they portrated the heroism of the city's inhabitants trying to make their last stand. The two women, for instance:
"I'll make a deal with you. You keep loading, and I'll keep shooting."
    "Deal."
    Something to that effect.
    Hello.

When hearing there would be two movies i assumed number one would be the humans striking a huge blow to the machines in the real world and then Neo finishing them off with some mean Kung Fu in number three. or even overthrowing the machines in number two and the harsh realisation they destroyed their own race in number three as all the freed humans starve and freeze to death.

I liked the idea Neo was born faster than a machine, i -didn't- like him being some super human who can see without eyes. There it crossed from the unknown to the bollocks
