Two PCs, both with XP Pro SP3, WMP 11 and the latest CCCP. One's my homebrew HTPC the other is the one I do most of my video and everyday stuff on.
WMP 11 on the HTPC plays everything I toss at it, though some files it always displays subtitles even when they're not enabled.
On the other PC, WMP 11 plays at least the first two audio tracks simultaneously in some files, mostly Matroska.
Sooo, the problem must be from some *other* software I have installed besides WMP 11 and CCCP, causing some interference with the file formats where WMP is playing simultaneous audio tracks.
Works OK in Media Player Classic, but that's not the issue. The problem is that it's NOT a problem with WMP 11 but something outside it.
'Course if WMP 11 handled track selection completely internally, buggy external software couldn't cause this problem.
Just some food for thought for anyone experiencing this with Windows Media Player 11.
If you're thinking of posting a reply to do nothing but pee on WMP and Microsoft, keep it to yourself since everyone on this forum has read it all already.

I'm guessing it's a splitter problem. For some reason two audio decoders are being loaded and used. You can use GraphStudio to figure out what decoders are being used. Then you can remove the extraneous decoder, or reinstall Haali's Media Splitter.
It's probably WMP's fault though. And we have every right to call out crappy players as we see them.
edit: wait, you posted this same problem a year ago? And someone even said:

Installing the latest Haali Media Splitter fixed it, therefore the problem was NOT Windows Media Player, it was a problem with the external splitter software. If it was a bug in any part of WMP from Microsoft, then it wouldn't be fixable by changing any 3rd party software.
Simple deductive reasoning to figure that out, which is the point of my original post in this thread. A bug in WMP would show up no matter what else is installed.
The only other issue I've encountered with some video files and WMP is getting it to not display subtitles. Dunno if that's a bug within WMP or if it's an issue with something external. Doesn't matter so much because I always watch anime in Japanese with English subs.
There is one thing that's absolutely a bug in WMP11. It won't display the menu graphics that indicate what's selected for most DVDs. Microsoft has a bull$h!t knowledgebase article blaming the problem on improperly formatted menu graphics. Riiiight. Thousands of DVDs are made wrong, so why is it only WMP11 has a problem with them? MS just won't admit they got it wrong.
WMP ain't the best player, but it's not as bad as y'all try to claim. There's been many times I've had videos that it's the only player that will play them.
