I've been hearing people talking about drop frames. Do it remove scenes from the movie or just mess up the movie.?

You have 29.97.... frames per second in a NTSC video. When one frame gets dropped it may be only noticed by you simply because you know it's there. When many get dropped it will be very noticable, the video will be very jerky wherever the frames were dropped. Additionally dropped frames will cause the audio to go out of sync with the audio.
