    Hi,

I'm looking for a cheap TV composite (from a VHS Source) to VGA converter please. Any recommendations ?

The Monitor has both standard VGA and RGB BNC Connectors if that's of any use. Source will be composite only.

I'm just looking to use an old 21" Monitor and a Video (for the Tuner) as a TV....

    Many Thanks,

    Teeerex

not really a good idea ...

the convertor would cost more than just going out and buying a 20" TV

    Hello,
    Here's a cheap alternative:
Get an old pc with a video out graphics card and a capture card. Then hook an antenna up to the capture card and your all set. It wouldn't have to be top of the line. Just go to any auction website and get the cheapest one that will work with your pc. Then you have an instant pc/tv.

That's not bad. My suggestion was if TeeeRex had a spare pc laying around with a tv out card. Then a cheap input card wouldn't be a bad alternative.

Though if TeeeRex wants to just have the monitor and the vcr then a converter box will be needed.

Wait a minute, aren't there vga boxes for $50 USD at Bestbuy?? I thought I saw one awhile ago from an off brand in a stand near the videogames. Maybe TeeeRex should check them out??

the only ones i knew of are 200$ and up .. if there is a 50$ - alright , but would be amaizing if that cheap as you are really talking about comp to analog rgb , not digital vga

    Hello,
You're probably right. I just think TeeeRex should look at all the options. Who knows, maybe an auction website has a converter on the cheap. Oh well, hope TeeeRex gets what he wants.

    TeeeRex,

    You can try this site.
Its GE TV to PC Converter. I think this is the one that you're looking for.

  10. Viewsonic & Planar both make one with remotes, they are about $79
Both of these make lcd monitors too, so naturally they must be nice.

Cheers for the replies guys - much appreciated !

I was with BJ_M - after the initial look the converter was indeed more than than a cheap TV but if you don't ask ...

    Cheers again,

  12. The device you are looking for has a name... video scaler. You need interlaced composite video deinterlaced and scaled up to a resolution that your 21" CRT monitor can resolve without showing scanlines. Here is a video scaler...

And here is a line doubler (which would deinterlace video to 480p)...

    http://www.avtoolbox.com/avt3200.shtml

As you can see, it can be a pretty expensive proposition. There are some cheaper devices that will do what you want, but don't expect great quality. In actuality, don't expect great quality anyway, as if your source is native interlaced video, it will be softened when it's deinterlaced and fast motion will not look natural. If you are working with film-based interlaced video, then that's another story, but I doubt that you are.

I second (or third or whatever) the idea of just getting a big television instead of using the computer monitor. Composite video is not worthy of your 21" monitor.
