  1. I am still new to DVD recording so please bear in mind.

I am currently working on transferring video to DVD.
I got a RDR-GX7 Sony recoder and it works great for tv and DV recording.

I am currently recording an old racing tape that has really good picture and sound for its age. However there is a slight background noise from playing the tape. It is consistant ( I call it old tape noise.) IS there any easy way to fix this? ( I don't think the Sony can do audio enhancements)
What computer program would be the easiest?

In all honesty, I am torn.
    1. Sony RDR GX7 - DVD VR mode (with all of its cool manual setting modes that only it can do) vs. just using DVD+RW and being restricted.
    2. capturing - the Sony (which is really easy to use for basic stuff )vs. the computer (which you can customize graphics, set menus, and so on, but than again be more time oriented and confusing)
    3. Programs I have - Roxio ECCD and DVD Creator vs. Pinnacle Studio 8

What I want- capture video (from video tape or DV camera, get the best video I can), add graphics like title screens with menus, clean up audio and even get a 5.1 on some if possible, and create custom jewel case graphics. I just want to create and archive some history on disc and wondering the best and most awesome way to do it. And to be somewhat simple and not brain surgery. I have a 8 month old son, which is so cool, but there isn't alot of extra time if you know what I mean.

Thank you for reading and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Extract the audio stream with VDub and save it in WAV form and you can use just about any audio editing program to adjust the sound & re-save it. Then just encode it to AC3 or MP2 depending on what your project calls for. If you have Nero you can use the editor that comes with it to fiddle with your sound. It ain't the greatest but it doesn't altogether suck, either.
