  1. If I convert an avi into dvd format (that would be a high res and high kbs mpeg2 right?), can I burn it into a CD and then have my dvd reader play it? My dvd player reads vcds and svcds...

I was wondering if you have to stick to vcd and svcd format only if you're burning CDs, or if it is possible to burn DVD quality mpeg2s into a CD and play it without problems (besides storage space, but I can divide the video in several parts).

    Thanks,

  2. You would be creating a mini-dvd then. Not all players support this, check it out of the left panel to see if it does, it doesn't mention your player, it's best to try it out yourself. You need an authoring program though to create the mini-dvd, try something like TMPGEnc DVD Author.

It really depends on your player, sometimes it will play anything you throw at it, while others stick to the standard formats only. My player doesn't support mini-dvds, but i use the kvcd templates at www.kvcd.net and use the 704x576 resolution and i personally believe gives way better quality then the standard vcd, although some players may not play the resulting file. There was a huge debate a few weeks ago on this topic...yea..

Oh yeah, i got a question for those experts out there. I use the 704x576 kvcd template and i increasted the bitrates (min: 2000, max:8000) and encoded a small clip, and amazingly it worked on my dvd player but i don't think the quality was that much better, maybe it would help to lessen blocks, but other than that quality was same. Any theories to this?
