Problems when burning with nec-1300

I have used a nec 1300 for a long time now along with Windows 2000 and I have burned almost 200 DVDS without any coasters (great writer), but the other day I reinstalled Win2000 (formated C) and got every update from windows update and now I can't burn i 4x and when I burn now the computer gets SO slow that it's almost unnatural..... Its the same hadware and software before and after the installation of Win2000. An onther thing now is that when burning the led on the NEC is flashing all the time and I cant remeber it was doing so before..... Anyone got the same problem ?

Check if you drive is in DMA mode. If not change it in the device manager.

Right Click on My Computer->Tab Hardware->Hardware manager.
Check on every ide controller that the mode "DMA if available" is selected.

PS: I hope that I have put the right translation (my Win2000 is in French)
