  1. Hello,

I am having an odd problem with my ATI TV Wonder VE and new system.

It worked absolutely fine in my last Windows system and it works absolutely fine in my Linux system, but when I put it into my new machine and try to capture full-height NTSC video, I get flickering horizontal lines that last for only one frame, and then disappear, but appear randomly (and frequently) throughout my capture. Their position varies as well.

    No, they aren't interlacing artifacts!

A picture is worth a thousand words:

Ignore the blockiness, that is to keep the image under the 50kb limit.

I expect it is some sort of IRQ or DMA conflict, or some obscure timing issue with the PCI bus or something, so of some sort, but there are lot of different possibilities so I was hoping someone else has experienced this problem or has some idea what it could be.

  2. It could be a driver issue. Have you checked the ATI website to see if there is a driver update that you could download?

  3. I use the btwincap driver. The ATI TV Wonder VE is artificially limited to 240 lines. It is capable of full resolution; the ATI driver caps it so they can sell more of their more expensive card.

Actually, you may be on to something. When I use Dscaler to watch, I get a perfect image. Interesting. I'll e-mail the btwincap driver author.

There has got to be a way to hack the drivers to allow x480... we need a programmer on that.

  5. The ATI drivers and the btwincap drivers are supposedly based on the same Brooktree reference driver, however the btwincap driver is supposed to be newer.

Anyway, I think it is some sort of DMA issue -- when I disable DMA on my hard drives, the lines disappear -- granted, I only can get 1 in every 40 frames or so but I can't find any such example of lines.

    Any ideas?
